Onboard at Sepang

Similarly to the Australian Grand Prix a week ago, this post features several onboard videos from the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, as we look a head to Round Two on the 2011 F1 calendar. Enjoy!

It may have only been his second race, but here in 2007 Lewis Hamilton drove like a seasoned veteran. In a much inferior Mclaren, Hamilton held back Ferrari's Felipe Massa for several laps as his team mate Fernando Alonso scampered clear at the front. As the video will testify, Hamilton made Massa, an experienced racer, look silly.

Jenson Button had a masterful start to his championship winning campaign of 2009 and here is his second pole position of the season in Malaysia. He went on to win the race following its abandonment at the half distance due to heavy rain.

Malaysia 2002 now and despite Williams securing a one-two, with Ralf Schumacher winning by 40 seconds ahead of team mate Juan Pablo Montoya, the real talking point was the first corner incident between Montoya and Michael Schumacher. Montoya got away better than the Ferrari on the run down to the first corner but the two collided and, somewhat ridiculously, Montoya was handed a drive-thru penalty. Check out the video and make your own judgements. Montoya made a brilliant recovery to claim second, while Schumacher also made a superb comeback to take third, making the most of Jenson Button's rear suspension woes to pass the Renault driver on the final lap.

Finally, we have Mark Webber's outstanding pole lap from last season. The Australian made an inspired choice of intermediate tyres in Q3, ending up 1.3 seconds ahead of Nico Rosberg's Mercedes and his Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel. Webber was beaten into Turn One by Vettel and with the Red Bull RB7 looking the class of the field, a Red Bull battle into the first corner this weekend looks extremely probable.

Josh.
