It seems incredulous to think that we are already a quarter of the way through what has been an enthralling Formula One season. Round six of the campaign takes us to the principality of Monaco, where the glitz and glamour of F1 reigns supreme. As ever, here are some onboard laps from arguably the most iconic event on the calendar.
In 12 attempts, Nigel Mansell never managed to win in Monte Carlo. The closest he came to securing victory around the streets of Monaco was in 1992 where he was narrowly defeated, somewhat unluckily, by Ayrton Senna in a much slower Mclaren. Here is Mansell's lap around the Monte Carlo circuit in 1991, where he also finished second to the Brazilian. Expert commentary comes from a certain Murray Walker.
This is undoubtedly my favourite lap around Monaco. Riding onboard with Robert Kubica in the Renault is truly a sight to behold, and his qualifying lap here last year is no exception. With extreme bravery and immaculate precision, the Pole put his Renault second on the grid behind Mark Webber's Red Bull. Although beaten to second by Sebastian Vettel, third place was a magnificent result for the Enstone team. Enjoy this sensational lap.
For someone gifted with extraordinary talents behind the wheel of a racing car, it is a pity that Jarno Trulli only won a single Grand Prix. However, it must be slightly comforting for him that that victory occurred on the grandest stage of all: Monaco. He took pole position here in 2004 and held off a strong challenge from BAR's Jenson Button to take a memorable win.
P.S. What are your favourite Monaco moments? List them in the comment box. The memories around this famous circuit are endless.
Josh.
Favourite Monaco moment would be Jenson Button's jog to the podium celebration! After 78 laps of racing, incredible man!
ReplyDeleteIt isn't a question, but my worst Monaco moment was Raikonnen's smash into the back of Sutil's Force India. Torrid times.
I was going to use his pole lap from '09 but I'm not sure whether we will see Kubica again, so for sentimental reasons I chose his lap.
ReplyDeleteThat was so sad, such a bad, bad error.
